KARL Hinds’s record-breaking goalscoring season has been rewarded after he was named 2022-23 Jersey FA Player of the Year, while Jersey Wanderers’ Sofia Rodrigues picked up the Women’s Player of the Year.

Hinds was also presented with the JEP Golden Boot, having scored 50 goals in all club competitions in just 24 appearances. His strikes helped fire Grouville to a cup treble that included the curtain-raising Charity Cup, the Wheway Memorial Trophy and the Jeremie Cup. Grouville also finished second in the league.

He fought off competition for the top gong from Premiership champions St Peter’s Tom Blampied and Pierce Roche.

Among his half-century of goals was 17 scored against bottom-side Portuguese United alone, including ten in one match. He also scored hat-tricks against St Brelade three times, one against St Paul’s and one against Guernsey side St Martins in the Wheway.

Muratti star Rodrigues saw off the nominations of Rozel Rovers’ teenager Poppy Benest and last season’s Player of the Year, Sophie Botterill, to win the award. The flying full-back scored eight goals and registered eight assists in 15 appearances for Wanderers, including one in the Women’s Jersey FA Cup final 4-1 defeat to Rozel, with her side finishing runners-up in the league. Her team-mates Hannah Lynam and Sam Silva shared the Golden Boot with 12 goals each.

Meanwhile, Toni Cardoso was named Referee of the Year ahead of Harry Walker and Mark Le Cornu.
