Podium place for Gregory in Cumbria

Held on the Brampton motocross track, in Cumbria, the 22-year-old stepped up to a new level and made his mark against riders from the UK and Northern Ireland.

Riding his Yamaha YZF 250 in the MX2 class, the Sanne-employed chartered accountant showed speed and consistency on a track that cut up badly after just one block of racing.

With 40 quality riders ready, a good start was crucial to prevent having to work through the pack and Gregory’s cause was helped considerably by powering to an excellent third place in race one, thus securing third-pick of the start gates for the remainder of the weekend.

Race two produced another solid, smooth ride to another third place, together with building on race one.

Despite his relative lack of race and practice time, caused by poor weather in Jersey, Gregory’s overall fitness was paying dividends.

Race three was delayed until day two as the track had become so rough it needed grading before racing could continue.

First out on Sunday, on a freshly-graded track, Gregory had his best ride of the weekend.

Powering out of the start gates in fifth place, Gregory picked off three riders in the 20-minute race, to finish second behind Northern Ireland’s Scott Hamilton – the 2017 MX2 champion.

Gregory followed up with third and fourth positions to end a tiring weekend in third place overall for a place on the podium.

Fellow Jersey rider Bradley Le Feuvre competed in the same class, finishing 14th.

It was a fine effort from the 20-year-old, who had mixed fortunes over the weekend after returning to motocross after a couple of years away from the sport.

Riding well, having stepped up to this national level, Le Feuvre had a number of crashes – caused by other riders.

Gregory, who is supported by Morris Marine & Motors and SJ Motorcycle Repairs, will compete in the next event in Dublin next month.
