Conditions for the Valla/ Jersey Motor Cycle and Light Car Club hill climb opener were certainly tricky for those brace enough to tackle the course.
Times, as you would expect, were not close to any of the existing records, but still impressive given the conditions.
Outright fastest time of the day went to Len Amy in his Mallock MK32 racing car, with a fastest run of 47.62 sec being well short of his record of 42.34 but still a spectacular effort in the slippery conditions.
Hot on his heels, with the fastest motor bike time of the day, was Lee Le Feuvre on his Castle Cars Husqvarna with a mighty run of 47.98 sec good enough to take the largest bike class of the day.
Second place went to Daniel Vibert on a KTM SMR, with a best run of 49.62 seconds. Third placed Danial Lagadu, on a Husqvarna, also broke through the magic 50-second mark, with a best time of 49.95 sec.
The only other sub-50 time was achieved by Thomas Snell in a Sodi Sigma KZ who’s best run was 48.04 sec.
Snell put on a thrilling display of power slides one of which saw him get very out of shape between Les Platons and Radio Corner but nonetheless recovered brilliantly and negotiated the latter in some style.
That alone earned him a round of applause from the crowd.
Sam Bingle, on a Honda CR250, got very close to a sub-50 run with his final attempt when, after some very skilful riding, he recorded a 50.03 sec time.
Elsewhere, Robert Vautier, in a Caterham 125, had his hands full in the road-going production class to-2-litre, as he had to fend off no less than three Mazda MX 5s, driven with much enthusiasm, exuberant wheel spins and power slides. Vautier managed to keep them at bay with some very neat and quick runs and a best time of 55.57, which pushed Dave Truscott in the leading MX5 into second place in the class.
Truscott’s best time was 58.72.
A club spokesman thanked all the officials and marshals who turned out to make the day happen: sponsors Valla; St John Ambulance; Normandy Rescue; and the residents on the hill.
Next hill climb is the Liberation Day event, on 9 May.
