Rubgy: Van Breda attends Championship launch

Sport | Published:

FULLBACK Scott van Breda, one of three players to have captained Jersey Reds in pre-season, attended the 2017/18 Greene King IPA Championship launch yesterday.

The South African lined up alongside the 11 other second-tier club representatives at Twickenham for the annual curtain raiser, including Jerseyman Michael Le Bourgeois – once again captain of Bedford.

Van Breda (25) captained the Reds for their second pre-season fixture this summer, against National One Coventry, and is clearly one of the players in the running to lead Jersey this campaign as head coach Harvey Biljon seeks to fill the void left by previous skippers Pierce Phillips and James Freeman.

Fellow new signings Roy Godfrey (prop) and Jared Saunders (hooker) led the Reds out against RC Vannes and Harlequins respectively in pre-season, but the club have yet to confirm who will be appointed skipper.
