Athletics: Multi-event magic for Island juniors

EVAN CAMPBELL is the country's top-ranked U17 multi-eventer this week following a championship-winning display at the Somerset Schools Combined Events.

The Jersey Spartan AC athlete claimed top spot on the podium in Street with an octathlon score of 4,724 points – 34 better than his nearest rivals and enough to place him at the summit of the early UK standings for 2017.

Elsewhere, club colleague Lucy Woodward was crowned Hampshire U15 girls pentathlon champion after finishing five points ahead of Basingstoke's Isobel Pinder in Portsmouth. Woodward's total of 2,768 points moves her up to 13th in the UK rankings.
