Rugby reaction: ‘I don’t know how we let them back in’

The 27-24 success was the Islanders’ first win in six league games but it came at a price. All Black Regan King was a late withdrawal through injury, while Ross Adair, George Eastwell and stand-off Brendan Cope all limped away from the action.

Jersey led 17-3 at half-time but almost threw the game away, with Pirates drawing level at 24-24 before Sam Katz kicked a late penalty.

‘I don’t know how we let them back in … but the most pleasing and rewarding thing was when we came under pressure – it was really important that we got through that,’ Biljon said.

‘It would have been very easy to draw that or lose that.’
