Football: Brett would wear red again

Jersey Football Association delegates handed over a 144-page application document when they met senior Uefa officials in Geneva in December and are currently awaiting a response.

Old Victorian Pitman (28) admits that Jersey succeeding with their bid may not happen during his playing career, but said he would still enjoy turning out for them again.

‘If Jersey did have a side I’d be disappointed if I wasn’t in it,’ the former Junior Muratti striker told Independent Ipswich Town.

‘This has been spoken about before but I think there are a lot of obstacles to be overcome before it happens.

‘I’m not even sure if I am totally in favour of the idea; you have to look and ask if there is any point in Germany going to San Marino and winning 15-0 – is that not just a waste of everyone’s time?’

‘But if it happens and they want me to play I won’t turn them down.’
