The football coaching course is for 15 players in each of the five age groups (9-14 years) and will be headed by former Manchester United and Bournemouth player Russell Beardsmore, who now works for the south coast club’s Community Sports Trust.
St Clement SC committee member Gary Tumelty, who is also under-18 team manager, said: ‘This is the first time we have done this and it’s great exposure for the club to have high quality coaches working with our young players.
‘We’ve had several inquiries to attend from outside of the club and if we are not full with our own members then it will be invitation only, but I expect it to be full.
‘Our players are really keen; we have a massive thriving minis section at St Clement and everyone is excited and looking forward to working with high quality coaches who are involved with a professional club.’
Many clubs around the country run courses in their communities, with St Peter FC having annual visits from Everton’s Football in the Community coaches every summer.
Tumelty added: ‘Bournemouth have run a similar soccer school in Guernsey and they got in touch with us to see if we were interested in doing something similar here.
‘We’re looking forward to meeting everyone and putting on the course on Thursday and Friday 29 and 30 October.
‘Our coaches and Bournemouth’s will also meet to discuss development football and the various techniques they use and we’ll have a debrief on the Friday evening as well.
‘It’s a possibility that we may forge a link with Bournemouth and if it is successful we’ll look to do it again possibly at Easter or in the summer.
‘The cost of the course, £50 a head, will help fund half of the cost of the visiting coaches’ flights and their accommodation and travel costs during their stay.’
No doubt there may be an opportunity for a promising player(s) to spend some time in the future being coached at the now Premier League club, where Jerseyman Brett Pitman had two successful spells before moving to Ipswich Town this season.
