Parkman and his Bermuda-bound NatWest Island Games team-mates – Gavin O’Neill, Sam Crenan and Nick Wildman – are in a quality field of 42 vying for the prestigious title.

A 36-hole medal qualifier takes place tomorrow, with rounds starting at 7.28 am and 12.18 pm with the top 16 gross scores qualifying for the matchplay knock-out rounds on Saturday and Sunday with the final from 1.15 pm.

Parkman, who has taken this week off to work on his game, said: ‘I’ve taken the week off to give it a go. It’s always more difficult retaining a title than winning one so I’ll be concentrating hard.’
