The 16-year-old smashed her Island record with 2.02.36 min on her way to third place although at 150m she looked in with a chance of upsetting the race favourites.

AIB Tigers head coach Nathan Jegou described it as a ‘high class swim which ranks her as one of Jersey’s finest ever swimmers.’

He said: ‘Those in swimming will know just how good a time that is for a girl of 16 years of age. The race itself was the best in the pool on the night and at 150m it was anyone’s from four girls. The pressure was on Emily after last

year’s performance, she knew the top two girls were much faster over the first 100m and she just pushed them so hard.’
