His record came as Jersey hosted rounds 17 and 18 of the MSA British Hillclimb Championship, sponsored by Apex Trust Company Limited.

Four drivers posted sub-40 second times in the qualifier for round 17: Willis, Goodyear, Moran and driver John Bradburn who was new to Jersey, racing a Formula One powered Gould racing car.

Of the top 12 drivers Goodyear was in impeccable form and lowered the hill record by 6/100th of a second with a mighty 37.82 sec, taking winning honours for a fourth time this year in the Championship.
