The teenager, Jersey’s first female to represent GB for over a decade, is heading to Antwerp with Britain’s elite junior swimming squad for the European Junior Championships.

Bashforth, who was 15 at the time of her qualification, gained GB selection at the recent Olympic trials, held at the London Aquatic Centre, after recording a time of two minutes 5.31 seconds in the 200 metre freestyle discipline.

The first Island female swimmer to represent GB was Samantha Chaperon (Jersey Swimming Club) in the late 1990s.
