Although once again clashing with the majority of school exam schedules, there is still a strong group of entries in six sports: athletics, swimming, gymnastics, tennis, sailing and table tennis.
They will face competition from 18 other islands including Sicily, Cape Verde, Guadeloupe, Corsica and Madeira. In a first this year, the Isle of Wight will fly into Jersey to share a direct flight to the island of Sao Miguel for the games which run from 26-29 May.
The Jersey team, which is this year sponsored by Altis Partners, boasts ten competitors with previous Jeux des Iles experience. These include athletes Kathryn Rothwell, who won two silver medals in 2008, and last year’s podium placers such as Shadine Duquemin, Elliot Dorey and Molly Jehan.
