A WOMAN who started as a volunteer with Durrell before being offered her “dream role” as events manager in 2018 has been nominated for Community Champion of the Year by her partner, Daniel Houze.
Ms Le Var organised the first Rainforest Ball at the Royal Jersey Showground which raised more than £240,000 in support Durrell and the Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Programme.
Over the next decade, Ms Le Var became a “driving force” in raising “millions of pounds, Mr Heuze said.
He added: “She played a key role in major initiatives including the Wild in the Art trails and Go Wild Gorillas, and led the hugely successful Tortoise Takeover.
“She was also instrumental in delivering flagship events such as the Durrell Dash, Durrell Challenge, London Lecture Series, golf days, corporate events, multiple Royal visits by HRH Princess Anne, and three further fundraising balls.”
Now, after nearly ten years of service, Ms Le Var is embarking on a new chapter with NSPCC Jersey, where she will help support vulnerable children and families.
