KEITH Skelhorn (83) has been nominated for Community Champion for “years of tireless volunteering across St Helier” and being the “embodiment of what it means to give back”.
He was nominated by teachers at Grand Vaux School, who said Mr Skelhorn is a stalwart of the Parish of St Helier Social Team – cooking breakfasts for Liberation Day and helping in the kitchen at senior citizens’ Christmas lunches. Additionally, Mr Skelhorn is a liaison officer for the Band of the Island of Jersey, helping them setting up stages and seating as well as always being a helping hand at elections.
Mr Skelhorn is also involved in the Battle of Flowers, with his nominators stating that he can be spotted each year, yellow visor on, pulling his water trolley alongside the band.
The teaching group added: “Keith has become part of the fabric of Grands Vaux School, helping the caretaker with anything and everything.
“The children adore him, staff call him invaluable, and everyone who meets him feels luckier for it.”
