A GROUP of volunteers who are “vital” in supporting Durrell’s mission of saving species from extinction, protecting wildlife and inspiring people to care for the world’s ecosystems have been nominated for the Environmentalist of the Year award.
Nominated by Daniel Craven, the Durrell wildlife volunteers play an “essential role” in the Island’s environmental conservation.
Mr Craven said: “They support our gardens, events, education programmes, administration, keeper support, charity shop, visitor engagement, site upkeep, fundraising, organic farm, recycling initiatives and much more.
“Beyond the smiles and the time they give, volunteers bring diverse stories, backgrounds, skills and perspectives, creating memorable experiences that connect people with wildlife, conservation and the natural environment.”
Mr Craven added: “Through their dedication, they support conservation, champion sustainable practices and help inspire thousands of people to value and protect wildlife.
“We are so proud of them and hope this award can highlight that appreciation on behalf of everyone connected with Durrell.”
