A TEACHER who has gone the extra mile to raise thousands of pounds for local charities has been nominated for the Volunteer/ Fundraiser of the Year award.
Nominators Claudette and Phil Taylor said they were incredibly proud of their son, Kalem Taylor, a teacher at Les Quennevais School, for his dedication to supporting Islanders through fundraising challenges.
They said that instead of spending his May half-term relaxing, Kalem dedicated all five days to walking 241 miles around the Island in aid of Jersey Cancer Relief and Mind Jersey.
Hoping to raise £2,000, he inspired the community to donate more than £5,000.
His efforts followed a Movember 2025 challenge in which he completed 60 laps of a cycle track, swam 60 lengths and cycled 60 miles in a single day, raising £1,600 after setting an initial target of £600.
Claudette and Phil said: “What makes us most proud isn’t just the miles he walks or the money he raises; it is the example he sets.”
Describing Kalem as someone who “never seeks recognition”, they said his kindness, determination and selflessness had made him an inspiration to his family, pupils and the wider community, and a deserving nominee for the Volunteer/Fundraiser of the Year award.
