Nominated by: Lydia Santos

A YEAR 1 teacher at Samarès Primary School has been nominated for the Teacher of the Year award for being “incredibly caring towards all the children and the wider school”.

Gemma Dufty has been teaching for eight years and enjoys working with children from all different walks of life, according to her nominator, Lydia Santos, who said that “she is especially amazing” when supporting those with additional educational needs.

At the start of the year, Miss Dufty broke her hip but still “made a positive difference to the children’s school experience every day”, despite struggling with her own recovery. Miss Santos added that “all of the children in her current class wish they could stay with Miss Dufty next year”.

Miss Dufty goes above and beyond the walls of her classroom by “always being friendly, kind and supportive,” making her “truly deserving” of an award, Miss Santos said.
