A REMEMBRANCE Day display with hundreds of poppies has been created outside the parish hall in St John as Islanders prepare to honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
St John Constable Andy Jehan said that the display had been created by a couple in the parish, who spent five hours setting it up after “countless hours” making the poppies.
Mr Jehan added: “We are delighted with the display and are extremely grateful to the couple for all of their hard work and dedication.
“It’s important to remember those who gave everything so we could live the lives we lead.”
Proceedings at the Cenotaph on Remembrance Sunday will see the surrounding roads closed to public vehicles from 9.30am until 12.30pm.
Multiple events are also due to be held on Saturday, including coffee mornings at a number of parish halls.
Five members of the Royal British Legion Jersey Riders Section will be undertaking the Memorial Ride on Saturday, laying crosses at each of the parish memorials culminating with the 13th cross at the Cenotaph.
As the Island prepares to mark Remembrance Day on 11 November, the government is reminding ex-military personnel that help is available if they need support.
In a statement, the Employment, Social Security and Housing department highlighted the role of its dedicated senior liaison officer, Eddie Clark.
Mr Clark joined the Royal Air Force at the age of 16 and spent most of the 1990s serving in the RAF.
After leaving the military, he spent several years finding his feet before settling in Jersey in 2007. He joined ESSH in 2013 and now works in the Customer Experience Team.
“Eddie can help ex-military personnel understand what support is available and how to access it,” the department stated.
“This might mean helping someone find the right service, explaining their options or contacting another organisation on their behalf,” it continued.
“The aim is to make getting help as simple as possible, so people can access the right support when they need it.”
Ex-military personnel can contact Mr Clark by emailing ESSHarmedforcessupport@gov.je or calling 07829 909990 during normal office hours.
The service is available throughout the year.
