ST SAVIOUR’S Hill has been closed following a gas leak, with motorists warned that traffic diversions could remain in place for around five days.
Island Energy confirmed this evening that investigation works were under way in the area, with traffic being redirected in both directions.
Motorists travelling up St Saviour’s Hill are being diverted via Chasse Brunette, while those heading downhill are being stopped at Five Oaks and redirected via Bagatelle Road.
The company said: “We’re carrying out investigation works in the St Saviour’s Hill area, and traffic diversions are now in place.
“If you’re travelling through the area, please plan ahead and allow extra time for your journey.”
Island Energy added that the works were expected to remain in place for around five days, although this could change as investigations progress.
The disruption is also affecting public transport, with LibertyBus confirming that route 23 is being diverted via Wellington Hill in both directions.
Island Energy said it understood that traffic travelling via Chasse Brunette would be redirected along Patier Road and onto Bagatelle Road.
The company added that diversion signs would be put in place and police would be assisting with traffic management.
The exact location of the leak, its cause and the extent of any damage have not yet been confirmed.
