A TEN-MILE run in memory of a much-loved Islander will return next month, raising money for two charities that supported him after a brain injury.
‘Running for Frubbs’, now in its ninth year, honours Frank ‘Frubbs’ MacFarlane, who died in 2017.
Originally from Dumbarton in Scotland, Mr MacFarlane spent many years working in Jersey’s hospitality industry and is fondly remembered for his “warmth, friendship and love of life”.
His close friend Harry McAlinden established the run, which he organises alongside Paul Burrows of event sponsor Trail Monkey Jersey.
All proceeds from the £35 entry fee will be split between Headway Jersey, of which Mr MacFarlane was a member, and Jersey Stroke Support, which also supported him.
Friends recall his love of The Who and The Rolling Stones, whose CDs he would take into Headway Jersey’s day centre to play during arts and crafts sessions.
The event has become a “fixture” of Jersey’s running community and will return on Sunday 29 November.
The route starts at Castle Quay and follows the coast towards St Aubin before heading back through the Railway Walk.
Runners of all abilities are invited to take part, from experienced competitors to those looking for a challenge.
Entrants must be aged 18 or over and are asked to arrive at Castle Quay from 9.30am.
Registration is open until 19 November through the Race Nation website by searching for Trail Monkey Running.
Islanders can also donate through the Sports Giving UK website under ‘Running for Frubbs 2026’, or volunteer as a marshal by emailing paul@trailmonkeyjersey.com.
