ONE of the longest-serving members of the Société Jersiaise who made “a lasting contribution to the study and appreciation of Jersey’s natural history” has died.
Tributes have been paid to Roger Long, a former president of the Société, who has passed away at the age of 96.
Sharing the news with “great sadness”, the charity stated: “Roger dedicated more than 60 years as chair of the Entomology Section and decades as chair of the Publications subcommittee and editor of the Société Jersiaise Annual Bulletin.”
It continued: “He made a lasting contribution to the study and appreciation of Jersey’s natural history, and his knowledge, enthusiasm and friendship will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
“Our thoughts are with Roger’s family and friends at this sad time.”
The charity also said that the details of an event to celebrate Mr Long’s life and contribution to the Société are to be shared in due course.
