A TEENAGER who followed a woman home and put a small firework through her letterbox has admitted a string of offences.
Shayne Evans (19) pleaded guilty to six offences, including malicious damage, assaulting a police officer and attempting to damage vehicles, in the Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
The court heard that Evans followed the woman from St Peter’s Parish Hall at about 11.30pm on 12 September before putting the ‘banger’ through her letterbox, which exploded and left scorch marks.
CCTV also showed Evans lighting another banger and throwing it towards an honorary police vehicle in the car park of the parish hall.
The offences breached community-service and probation orders imposed in May.
Advocate Allana Binnie, defending, read extracts from reports about Evans’s mental state which described him as “reliant on others for decision making” and “suggestible to antisocial peers”.
She said Evans was autistic, had experienced years of bullying and would be vulnerable in prison.
Relief Magistrate David Cadin, presiding, said custody could be “extremely detrimental” and released Evans on conditional bail.
He will be sentenced by the Royal Court on 27 November.
