A MAN who punched another man five times before following him through the Weighbridge taxi rank has been ordered to complete 100 hours of community service for the “unprovoked assault”.
Mark Edward Davis was also placed on probation for nine months after pleading guilty to common assault in the Magistrate’s Court this week.
The court heard that Davis began arguing with a man and woman at the taxi rank on 5 August.
He then turned to another man and said: “What the f*** are you looking at?”
When the man questioned why Davis was being aggressive, Davis punched him five times in the face.
The victim tried to walk away, but Davis followed him through the taxi rank towards Liberation Square and continued behaving aggressively.
He suffered bruising and swelling above his eye as well as a small abrasion.
Davis also had 25 hours remaining on an existing community-service order, the court heard.
Magistrate David Cadin, presiding, said CCTV captured an “unprovoked assault” for which there was “no excuse”.
