A MOTORCYCLE dealership is reducing its operations in response to a “sharp and sustained decline in demand”.

The Mansell Collection, which was founded by 1992 F1 world champion and former Jersey resident Nigel Mansell, has confirmed that while there will be a reduction in stock and workshop hours, there is no intention to close entirely.

Greg Mansell, chief executive and director, said: “Jersey has been fortunate to retain a level of motorcycle manufacturer representation that is rare for an Island of our size. We have worked extremely hard over the years to build an offering that we believe the Island deserves.”

However, Mr Mansell said the business had been hit with a “sharp and sustained decline in demand” that has made it “increasingly difficult to see how the present level of manufacturer representation can be maintained”.

He said that it needs to reduce its operational footprint and make the business commercially viable because the technical expertise and support for riders would be “incredibly difficult to rebuild”.

He continued: “We certainly don’t want to see Jersey follow the trajectory of smaller neighbouring Islands where manufacturer representation and locally available stock have gradually disappeared. We hope the current market is temporary, but we also have to respond responsibly to the conditions we are facing today.”

The dealership is now holding a stock reduction programme with many motorcycles available at discounted prices. Servicing, repairs or other workshop work should be booked ahead, because capacity is being reduced.
