AQUASPLASH is set to be closed for several days after an outbreak of legionella bacteria was discovered.
Routine testing uncovered traces of the bacteria in a number of water outlets within the facility.
Following tests carried out on Friday, operator Serco Jersey Ltd closed the showers and basins. The swimming pools are unaffected by the bacteria.
The facility has been closed to the public while the water system is disinfected, delaying its opening under the Active brand on 1 October.
During the temporary closure, the water system will undergo disinfection, further testing and any additional remedial works that may be required.
There are currently no known cases of illness linked to the facilities at Aquasplash, the Environmental and Consumer Protection Department has confirmed, and the risk to the public remains “very low”.
A statement from the Infrastructure and Environment Department said that although the temporary closure is “disappointing” for members, the health and safety of customers remains the “overriding priority”.
Members of Active, which Aquasplash is now a part of, can still access the wider network and swimming facilities at Les Quennevais Sports Centre while necessary works are under way.
Updates will be provided as work continues, and members will be contacted directly regarding reopening times and any arranged bookings.
