A CPR pop-up event designed to equip Islanders with the tools they need to confidently save a life will take place at St Brelade’s Bay tomorrow from 10.30am to 12.30pm.
It comes just over two months after a group of Islanders worked together to save the life of a Dutch tourist found lying without a pulse on the same beach.
The “informal” session will be led by a small team of Royal National Lifeboat Institution lifeguards and is open to all interested adults and children across Jersey.
Speaking to the JEP, co-organiser Ben Richardson said that he hopes the workshop will “promote the greater good” by teaching Islanders the basics of life-saving.
“It’s a totally community-driven event from a community of people that happened to have something not so nice happen,” he reflected.
“If there is one tiny chink of information that people remember for if they are in a similar situation, then it is job done – it really is simple as that.”
Mr Richardson added: “A lot of these occurrences can happen because our little Island is 50% beach and even bigger when the tide goes out.
“Hopefully, if something clicks for someone, it might just dispel any fear of getting involved and getting stuck in.”
