AN annual celebration of skateboarding, music, and youth culture is set to return to Jersey tomorrow, as the Island prepares to welcome 35 professional skaters from the UK and France.
Bowl Ā Crock is a free open-jam format where amateur riders and adaptive athletes get the opportunity to shred alongside professional skateboarders from around the world.
The day is being organised by Skate Space, a Jersey-based charity which encourages participation in physical activity and the progression of skateboarding culture in the Island.
Skaters ware invited to Les Quennevais Skatepark on Saturday from midday until 6pm.
The skatepark is the largest concrete skate facility in the British Isles, featuring a massive 9-foot deep bowl and extensive street sections.
There will be skate jams through the day, where all abilities are encouraged to enter, with prizes being awarded for both skill and effort.
There will also be live performances by local young bands, DJ sets, MCs and art workshops, as well as skating throughout the day.
The event will also feature the Danny Cram Memorial Bowl Opener at 1pm, held in memory of a 25-year-old skateboarder who took his own life in 2024 and which organisers described as the “heart of the event”.
Event organiser Natalie Mayer said: “It’s a poignant tribute to someone who meant a lot to our community, a reminder to look after each other’s mental health, and it signals the start of a day that’s about more than competition. It’s about what we’ve built together.
“When the Jersey skatepark opened three years ago, our charity Skate Space saw the potential this space had for Jersey. The core philosophy of the event is to create and concentrate a lot of energy and fun, to create inspiration and aspiration.
“We allow the opinions of young people to lead what happens at the event and we give opportunities and mentorship in event organisation, photography, videography, design, mural painting -all aspects of putting an event together.
“We are now in the third year of the event and I feel this is going to be a big one. People see the vision and are channeling it in independent and unique ways. The idea is that nobody owns the event, everybody owns it and everybody can bring their own splash of creativity to make it a super fun day.”
There will also be a Bowl Ā Crock afterparty at the Watersplash with bands and DJs continuing “the energy of the day”. Tickets can be purchased for the afterparty online at Eventbrite.
