LES Amis’ new five-bedroom nursing and complex needs facility is being prepared to open next month following the completion of building work on the project – that will help the charity care for those it supports “with dignity and continuity”.
The charity’s managing director Shaun Findlay has provided an update on Maison des Amis, which will provide higher nursing care for Islanders with learning disabilities who have additional needs due to age or dementia.
Construction work on the project, which saw the charity raise £1 million to buy the property on Rue de Bechet in Trinity – and a further £2.5 million to ensure the development can be completed – began in June last year.
Mr Findlay said: “We are so pleased with how well the project has gone and, with the building work and fitting out now completed, we’re just making sure everything is ready for our opening next month.”
He continued: “This is a much-needed facility which will allow us to provide specialist and end of life care. We’ve not been able to provide that for our service users, some of whom are among the most vulnerable in our community.
“Once open, we will be able to care for our residents and service users with the right level of medical support, providing care with dignity and continuity.”
