JERSEY BULLS’ introduction to life in the Surrey Premier Division proved a harsh one on Sunday as they were undone in the second half by a strong Sutton United U23’s side.

Sutton United U23’s sit top of the division after having put five past Walton & Hersham in their first game.
The Bulls held the league leaders in the opening half, jogging in at the break goalless in an opening exchange described by manager Chad Morris as “scrappy”.
“There was nothing between the teams early,” he explained, “but in the second half, we simply weren’t good enough.
“It was a difficult afternoon for us and we conceded some disappointing goals, if we’re being honest with ourselves.
“We looked a little disjointed, although there are understandable reasons for that, with players missing, others playing our of position and new players having only joined the squad recently.”
After breezing to promotion last season, all conversation out of the camp was how much more challenging this season would be – especially with the likes of key players Anita Tavares and Leah Morris leaving the club.
In their place are exciting young players being promoted from the academy who have earned their opportunities and – ever the optimist – Morris was particularly keen to take the positives where possible.
“Off the back of a disappointing performance, there has been some good clarity for us,” he continued. “We know now we’re a new and different team from last season, and it feels like a bit of a reset for us all.
“We’re developing new relationships on the pitch with academy players coming into the squad this season, and existing players having to evolve and play in different positions.
“It’s going to take a little bit of time, but we’re excited about this as a group, and I think it’s going to be really interesting to watch this squad grow and develop over the course of the season.”
Captain Holly Sundby and her teammates are next in action this Sunday September 20, away against Oxted & District. Horley Town FC will host the contest, with both sides still chasing their first wins of the season.
