ISLANDERS hoping to squeeze in one final summer swim are being encouraged to take the plunge while Jersey’s sea remains surprisingly warm.
The latest Jersey Met observations put the sea temperature at more than 19°C as of yesterday despite autumn beginning to creep in and the Island enduring a less summery spell of rain and wind.
Jersey Coastguard has reminded swimmers that RNLI lifeguards remain on duty at several beaches well beyond the traditional summer season.
Lifeguard cover at Plémont and Grève de Lecq continues until 13 September, while St Brelade’s Bay and Splash Surfer’s Beach will remain covered until 27 September.
And those determined to keep swimming into the colder months will find lifeguards at Le Braye until 1 November.
Swimmers have been reminded to stay between the red-and-yellow flags and follow lifeguard advice.
The latest weather observations underline the changing seasons, with a maximum air temperature of 22°C recorded during the previous 24 hours – while 10.1mm of rain fell.
Jersey Coastguard added that anyone facing an emergency at sea should dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
