ISLANDERS are being invited to apply for three vacancies on the Youth Court Panel.
The Bailiff is seeking people with integrity, fairness and sound judgement to help make decisions in criminal cases involving children and young people under the age of 18.
The Youth Court is made up of a Magistrate and two members drawn from the panel, who work together to reach fair and balanced decisions affecting young people.
No formal qualifications or previous court experience are required, with training and ongoing support provided.
Applications are welcomed from people of all ages, professions and backgrounds, as a diverse panel can offer a broad range of perspectives and experiences reflecting the Island community.
Candidates should understand, or be willing to learn about, the challenges facing young Islanders and have a broad awareness of contemporary youth culture.
Panel members are generally asked to sit in court for a morning once every six to eight weeks, although additional hearings may occasionally be required. The voluntary role is designed to fit around existing professional and personal commitments.
The work involves balancing the interests of young people, victims and the wider community while supporting accountability, rehabilitation and positive future outcomes.
Prospective applicants will be able to meet Magistrates and existing panel members in September, with details available on enquiry.
Applications close on 30 September, with interviews due to take place on 7 and 8 October.
