AN annual charity walk is returning this month to support the 1,600 Islanders currently living with dementia.
Dementia Jersey’s annual Memory Walk is due to take place on Sunday 20 September at 10.30am, raising awareness and funds to support people living with dementia, as well as their carers and families.
The charity – which expects to see demand for its services rise, with the number of people living with the condition expected to double within a generation – offers confidential support from dementia advisers and a programme of therapeutic activities open to people with dementia and their carers.
Starting at La Fregate and ending just before St Brelade’s Parish Hall, the Memory Walk is a flat five kilometres, and accessible for all ages and abilities. The route is pushchair- and wheelchair-friendly, and pets are also welcome to join.
The charity said that the event not only aims to raise money, but to honour those who have lost people who had dementia, those with family or friends currently living with the condition or people who simply want to take on a challenge to help raise awareness and vital funds.
Dementia Jersey is also urging Islanders to get involved even if they are unable to attend on the day through its “Own Route” option.
The option allows participants to complete their own Memory Walk at a time and place that suits them while still raising money and awareness for the charity.
Tickets must be purchased before 20 September and can be found on the Dementia Jersey website or through RaceNation.
