A SENIOR spiritual leader of an international Buddhist organisation is due to visit Jersey this month.

Reverend Master Kōten Benson, who was appointed Head of the Order of Buddhist Contemplatives last year, will be in the Island from Tuesday 8 to Saturday 12 September.

He has discovered ancestral links to Jersey through the historic cod fishing trade between Newfoundland in Canada, where he is from, and the Channel Islands.

Although Reverend Master Kōten is interested in exploring this aspect of Jersey’s history, the main purpose of his visit is to spend time with and support the local Buddhist meditation community.

Reverend Master Kōten will host a talk at 7pm on Friday 11 September at the meeting hall in 71 La Colomberie, near Howard Davis Park.

This event is open to anyone interested in meditation and Buddhist practice.

Reverend Master Kōten said: “I’m very much looking forward to visiting the local group and the Channel Islands.”
