ISLANDERS have one week left to nominate their community heroes for the JEP’s 11th annual Pride of Jersey Awards.
Nominations across 14 categories – including the new Sports Personality of the Year Award – will close at 9am next Friday, 4 September.
Islanders can put forward deserving individuals and organisations at prideofjersey.com or by completing the form on page 6 of today’s newspaper. The form will continue to appear in every edition until nominations close.
Carl Walker, group editor of All Island Media, said: “Every year, the Pride of Jersey Awards celebrate the extraordinary people and organisations that help make Jersey such a special place to call home.
“The awards recognise the kindness, commitment and achievements of those who go the extra mile for others, making them a much-loved part of the Island’s calendar.”
He added: “Across Jersey, there are countless people making a real difference in their communities, often without seeking recognition.
“With just one week left to nominate, if you know someone whose efforts deserve to be celebrated, we’d love you to put them forward for a Pride of Jersey Award and help shine a light on the remarkable people who make our island such a great place to live.”
After nominations close, Islanders will vote to select three finalists in each category. A judging panel will then choose the winners in September before they are announced at a gala ceremony at the Royal Jersey Showground on 18 November.
Sponsored by DFDS and Jersey Post, the event will celebrate some of the people and organisations making a difference across the Island.
The awards were launched in 2015 as part of the JEP’s 125th-anniversary celebrations. Last year, more than 270 Islanders were nominated and 27,674 votes were cast.
Among the most moving moments was the posthumous presentation of the Teacher of the Year Award to Dr Michael McKinlay. His wife collected the prize on his behalf and received a standing ovation.
Grandparent of the Year winner Hilary Bouteloup also received a standing ovation after “stepping in without hesitation” for her daughter’s young family following her son-in-law’s terminal cancer diagnosis.
Each of last year’s 14 winners received a trophy and a prize worth £1,000 from their category sponsor.
