PRIVATE investment clients have been warned to beware of a scammer impersonating a real investment company.

The Jersey Financial Services Commission said there was an “impersonating entity” which has been pretending to be FS Investment Services Limited, a real Jersey company.

The JFSC said the impersonator was offering investment services and portfolio management, which would require it to be registered with the regulator.

It said the “impersonating entity” and its website and email address “display warning signs of being set up for fraudulent purposes”.

The JFSC reminded people to be wary of warning signs including spelling mistakes, pressure and urgency, and requests for sensitive and personal information.

The watchdog urged Islanders to “stop, check, protect”: don’t act immediately, contact firms directly to check requests are legitimate, and speak to someone you trust, like your bank, before sending money.

Anyone who may have been affected should contact the police, enforcement@jerseyfsc.org, and their bank if they have already made a payment.
