A NEW campaign by Dementia Jersey has launched to encourage more Islanders to discover the joy of movement, helping them stay active while supporting their long-term brain health.
Find Your Groove kicked into action on Friday 7 August through a surprise flash mob dance performance at the Jersey Development Company’s Hola Friday! event.
This new initiative within Dementia Jersey’s Boost Your Brain campaign aims to raise awareness of lifestyle choices that can help reduce the risk of dementia, with dancing being one of them.
As music and local performers from Flair Entertainment brought their lively showcase to Trenton Square at the IFC, audiences were reminded of the health benefits of regular physical activity.
The campaign aimed to promote that activity can be fun, vibrant, and exciting, with dance in particular combining physical exercise with memory and connection with others.

The launch of the campaign follows research from the Lancet Commission in 2024 which suggested that addressing modifiable risk factors could have prevented or delayed dementia cases by 45%.
Dementia Jersey is encouraging Islanders to ‘Find Their Groove’ by accessing the numerous dancing opportunities already available to them across the Island.
Dreena Collins, dementia project manager at Dementia Jersey, said: “Find Your Groove is about showing that movement doesn’t have to mean going to the gym or running a marathon.”
“Whether it’s salsa, line dancing, Zumba, ballroom, street dance, or simply dancing around your kitchen, moving more is one of the best things we can do for both our physical and brain health.”
