FORMER Claire’s customers who learnt to love jewellery at the high-street chain are all grown up – and now its former King Street store is set to grow up with them.
Local jewellery brand Jersey Gems is due to take over the retail unit, ten months after it was announced that the local Claire’s Accessories branch would close its doors along with 144 other stores amid financial struggles.
A planning application proposes replacing the former shop’s distinctive pink plastic signage with the Jersey Gems name in brass-coloured lettering on a hardwood background.
According to the application, the changes would give the shopfront a “more traditional” appearance.
Founded 14 years ago, Jersey Gems creates jewellery inspired by the Island using pearls, Jersey granite, gemstones and silver.
Its collections also feature recognisably local designs, including puffins, dolphins and Jersey landmarks.
