THERE is just over a week to go until a variety of games, music, food and entertainment draw Islanders to “the highlight of the summer in the east”.
This year’s Gorey Fête will take place on Friday 21 August in aid of local charities.
The chosen causes for 2026 include BeachAbility, Normandy Rescue and the Jersey Heart Support Group.
Entry costs £7 for those aged 16 and over, £3 for under-16s and is free for children under five.
Describing the Fête as “the highlight of the summer in the east”, organisers said: “The dedicated team of St Martin volunteers, in collaboration with our sponsors Jersey Mutual and Jersey Post, have united to bring this event to life for our community and our chosen charities.”
The event will see the usual funfair, beach games, entertainment, music, spaghetti eating, yard of ale competition and fireworks – as well as some of the more recent additions, including a silent disco and a fancy dress competition for children.
Organisers added: “Stalls include face painting, kids’ activities, jewellery, sea glass creations, hair braiding, kids’ toys and games. Keep busy with vintage carousels and the crown and anchor.
“Enjoy beer from Stinky Bay at the committee bar and a wide selection of food… Caribbean, pizza, ice cream, noodles, seafood specials, Chipstix, churros, candy floss, speciality burgers and hotdogs, fresh hog roast and more.”
Lester Richardson, who chairs the Gorey Fête and St Martin Bonfire Committee, highlighted the preparations under way as the event draws closer.
“There is stuff going on all the time, bits to sort out and get ready – we can’t leave it until the last day,” he told the JEP.
Mr Richardson noted that the fireworks will be set off from a barge, not the beach.
