NEW membership packages for Aquasplash users have been unveiled ahead of the swimming centre’s transfer to being managed directly by the government this autumn.
The changes will come into effect when Active takes over the running of Aquasplash on 1 October, replacing a system that differs significantly from the leisure operator’s existing packages.
The government said the changes were intended to create a “simpler, more consistent” membership offer across all Active facilities, allowing customers to choose the package that best suits their needs.
The move to make Aquasplash part of Active marks the end of Serco’s 25-year tenure operating the facility and follows mounting concern over the pool’s spiralling deficit, which was covered by the public purse under the terms of a long-standing agreement.
The JEP revealed last year that taxpayer subsidies to run the swim facility rose above £1m annually.
Under the new pricing structure, current Aquasplash members will be able to transfer to what the government described as “near-equivalent” Active memberships.
Officials said the aim had been to keep the transition “clear and manageable”, while ensuring pricing remained fair across customers and supporting the long-term sustainability of the service.
Although some members will see a small increase in costs, others will pay less or gain access to a wider range of facilities and services under the new packages.
The pricing changes also include reductions for pay-as-you-go swimming. An adult lane swim, which includes access to the sauna and steam room, will fall from £8.75 to £6.35, while senior citizens and students aged 16 and over will pay £4.45 and juniors aged five to 15 will pay £3.60.
Family flume sessions will remain £9.30 per person on a pay-and-play basis, while Swim Tots sessions will cost £3.85 per child, including one accompanying adult. Children’s parties will cost £12.50 per child, with a minimum of ten participants.
Members on Active’s Full, Aqua and Unlimited packages will be able to use lane swimming free of charge, while family flume sessions will cost £2 per person.
The pricing changes come as more than £250,000 is being invested in Aquasplash’s infrastructure during 2026, with further investment expected next year to improve service quality and secure the centre’s long-term future.
The transfer to Active was announced last October, when the government confirmed it would bring Aquasplash into its portfolio of sports facilities after deciding it would provide greater control over rising operating costs and allow leisure services to be streamlined.
Active already operates the Island’s other public swimming pools, and the government said bringing Aquasplash into the network creates a more integrated service using shared expertise and resources.
