ARTWORK created by young Islanders has gone on display at the future Ann Street Youth Centre.
Six colourful graffiti-style panels have been installed on the hoarding surrounding the former Ann Street Brewery site by contractor Dandara.
The designs, created by pupils and youth groups from across the Island, celebrate the ideas, creativity and experiences of local young people while reflecting what they hope the new centre will represent.
Contributors included Grainville, d’Auvergne, Mont à l’Abbé and Springfield Schools, along with the Dungeons & Dragons Youth Project, Youth Arts Jersey, My Time for Carers, Youth Enquiry Service, Targeted Youth Support and LGBTQ+ Youth Jersey.
The panels explore themes including friendship, inclusion, creativity, sport, music, wellbeing and belonging.
The installation is the latest milestone in the development of the five-storey youth centre, which is due to open in summer 2028.
Work on the former brewery site began earlier this year, with the Youth Enquiry Service expected to move into a standalone building on the site in January 2027 before the full facility opens the following year.
Plans for the centre include a rooftop kick pitch, climbing wall, dance studio, boxing gym and health and beauty room, as well as spaces where young people can meet friends, develop new skills and access support.
Young people have continued to help shape the project through the Ann Street Youth Ambassador programme, which was launched earlier this year to ensure the centre reflects the needs of those who will use it.
As part of the initiative, youth ambassadors and youth workers attended Jersey Children’s Day, where they spoke to 64 young people, from Year 4 to Year 12, and 39 parents and other adults about their hopes for the new facility.
Among the suggestions were spaces to relax with friends, creative activity areas, gaming facilities and welcoming places where young people can access support.
