NEARLY £12,500 has been awarded to local artists, performers and creatives through a bursary established in memory of a much-loved Jersey dance teacher.
Now in its second year, the Jersey Eisteddfod Valerie Guy Bursary scheme provides grants of between £100 and £1,000 to help fund training, tuition, travel and equipment for those developing their talents across a range of creative disciplines.
Named in honour of the late Valerie Todd, a respected Island dance teacher known as Miss Guy who passed away aged 101 in 2022, the bursary is funded through her bequests to the Jersey Eisteddfod and is open to anyone who competed in one of the previous year’s festivals.
Jersey Eisteddfod chair Pat Sabey said the bursary had attracted applicants “from many different disciplines and of all ages”, adding: “We are determined to honour Valerie Guy’s lifetime devotion and commitment to the arts in Jersey.”
