A JERSEY actor has said goodbye to fans of soap opera Hollyoaks after his character was dramatically killed off this week.
Jonny Labey, a former Victoria College student, joined the cast in 2024 as gangster Rex Gallagher.
His final scenes aired this week in a whodunnit plotline when Rex was shot by a mystery assailant.
As well as appearing in Hollyoaks for the past two years, Mr Labey also starred as Paul Coker in Eastenders. A trained dancer, the 33-year-old also won ITV reality show Dance Dance Dance and has appeared on the West End stage in a number of productions.
In a post on social media, Mr Labey said: “Thank you for loving Rex as much as you have. Thank you for seeing this beautifully complex, troubled, but all in all lovable character that I’m going to miss so, so, so much. Love you all.”
In a separate post, the actor added: “Two and a half years of the best years of my life – the Rex which joined didn’t think he’d last to the first Christmas. Thank you Hollyoaks.”
He said that is was ten years to the week since his on-screen death as Paul Coker, adding that the “work these shows do to put such incredible episodes on our screens makes me so proud to have been part of it”.
Describing the previous two years as “monumental” having “crossed off so many firsts as an actor”.
“To have stomped in as a gangster and strutted out in a dress, I’ve loved every second and met and worked with so many legends. To everyone that has followed and invested in Rex, thank you from the bottom of my heart.
“I can’t wait to show you what I’ve been working on behind the scenes and I’m even more excited on what’s ahead.”
