A YOUTH minimum wage and different pay rates for different industries are not currently being considered as part of the latest review of Jersey’s minimum wage.
Social Security Minister Elaine Millar said the Employment Forum is currently carrying out the statutory consultation on the minimum wage rate for April 2027.
She said that, once the consultation had considered the evidence it received, the forum would make recommendations to her, which she expected to receive in September.
Senator Millar was responding to a written question from Deputy Max Andrews. He asked whether consideration was being given to introducing different minimum wage rates across industries or creating a youth minimum wage, and if so, who would be consulted and what age group it would apply to.
In response, the Social Security Minister said that her predecessor’s direction letter to the Employment Forum “did not ask it specifically to consider sectoral minimum wage rates or a youth minimum wage”.
She added: “I will consider all matters relating to the minimum wage once I have received the forum’s report.”
