PORTS of Jersey has introduced a seasonal harbour attendant at Gorey Harbour in the wake of calls to improve how the “historic” area is looked after.
Graham Seaford has taken on the newly created role, which was announced by Ports in April following discussions with the Gorey Boat Owners Association.
The States-owned entity said the position would “support day‑to‑day activity at the historic Gorey Harbour during the summer months”.
Mr Seaford said: “Part of my role here is to meet and greet the foreign visitors when they come in on their boats.”
He continued: “One of the things that has become very apparent since I started the role is the necessity for me to learn a lot more French.
“The other main part of my role is to make sure that all the mooring chains and ropes are in good condition, and also to maintain the safety of all the equipment in the harbour, the ladders and the stages, to make sure they’re safe for public use.”
“Meeting and talking to people, local and visitors, is probably my favourite part.”
