THREE weeks’ worth of patient transport service capacity has been lost to short-notice cancellations this year, prompting the service to urge Islanders to give as much notice as possible if they no longer need transport.
The States of Jersey Ambulance Service has revealed that 1,334 bookings had been cancelled with little notice in 2026 so far – the equivalent of three weeks of patient transport service capacity.
In a public appeal, the service urged patients to give as much notice as possible if they no longer needed transport to hospital appointments or day services.
“Unfortunately, when transport bookings are cancelled at short notice, it is often too late for us to offer that journey to another patient. This means valuable transport capacity can go unused while other patients are waiting for assistance.”
Informing the patient transport service as soon as circumstances changed would help crews and vehicles be used more effectively and allow more patients to benefit from the service, it added.
Anyone needing to cancel a transport booking is asked to contact the patient transport service control room on 444750 as soon as possible.
