A POPULAR coffee shop founded in St Aubin will expand into King Street, if Planning agree.
The Loft – which first opened St Aubin three years ago – now runs three outlets across the Island, with a coffee shop in IFC5 on the Waterfront and the business recently taking over the café at Strive Health Club in St Peter.
It has now submitted plans to move into the vacant former Pearce Jewellers at 3 King Street, on the corner between the high street and its main cut-through to the Royal Square.
Co-founder Dave Double told the JEP that the plan was to create a ground-floor “coffee-focused” venue, where lovers of the drink could not only buy speciality coffee but also purchase beans and find out more about the various ingredients and processes in play.
He said: “It is a small space so while we will be offering ‘grab-and-go’ food, if Planning agree, the focus will be very much on the coffee.
“Town has several chain coffee shops but not as many offering a real premium coffee experience.”
He added that there was a plan to eventually provide al-fresco seating.
In the planning submission, the Loft says it would “bring a touch of Italy to the high street” and sell locally sourced food prepared at its original venue in St Aubin.
“The Loft brand’s bold black fit-out will transform this space,” the application said, promising “a new chapter for an iconic brand” in “Jersey’s busiest pedestrian thoroughfare”.
