AN equestrian centre in St Martin will become the new home of a charity which helps disabled adults and children to ride, if a planning application is approved.
Riding for the Disabled is currently based at Le Claire Riding Stables in St John but hopes to move to Greencliff Equestrian Centre, which is above St Catherine.
The charity has applied for planning permission to build a store close to the centre’s northern sand school, which will be its new base.
The application states: “Riding for the Disabled will be using the small sand school at the Greencliff Equestrian Centre and the proposed store / shelter will be used for tack and equipment storage. The roof overhang will form some shelter for the children to wait for lessons.”
The proposal includes replacing the fencing and gates around the sand school and installing a hydraulic lift, which will come from Le Claire.
The charity, which was founded more than 50 years ago, has been based at Le Claire for the past 16 years but is moving because Greencliff has more ponies. It helps around 50 people to experience the joy and freedom of riding.
The application is considered to be a ‘minor’ one so is likely to be considered by a planning officer rather than to soon-to-be-formed Planning Committee, which is made up of politicians and sits to determine major and/or contentious plans.
