JERSEY College Preparatory will get a new ‘natural hoggin’ running track around its playing field, if a planning application is approved.
Principal Carl Howarth has applied for the 2-2.5m-wide track to be created on the perimeter of the field, which is to the east of the school overlooking the south coast.
A design statement written by the government said that the permeable hoggin would be made of ‘natural-looking’ material and blend it with its surroundings.
The application has been deemed ‘minor’ so is likely to be determined by a planning officer rather than the committee.
In September 2023, plans were finally approved to create the ‘wellbeing field’ after an earlier request for its change of use from agriculture was rejected in 2022.
Formerly two fields that were farmed for potatoes, the field is bordered by a 2m-high green mesh hedge and hedges. Then, Mr Howarth described the new ‘break-out space’ as a “game-changer” for the St Saviour school.
