ORGANISERS of the TMF Group 2026 Island Walk have praised the “tremendous effort” of this year’s walkers as they officially confirmed Jersey’s oldest, youngest and fastest finishers of the weekend.

Saturday’s event, which includes the main 48-mile trek as well as the 13-mile Lieutenant-Governor’s Challenge, the Relay and the One TMF Challenge, drew about 1,800 participants this year.

Around 1,480 people registered at the start line, though this does not include all of the relay teams – approximately an additional 165 people – since they start elsewhere, as well as the few hundred walkers who did the Lieutenant-Governor’s Challenge starting at Le Braye.

There were around 880 finishers, giving a finishing rate for this year of about 60%.

Around the Island Walk Trust chair Jake Crichton hailed the “tremendous effort” of all those who took part.

He said: “There’s so many people who have undertaken and achieved an incredible challenge doing this.”

Since the walk’s inception in 1991, it has brought together more than 33,000 participants and raised around £3 million for local charities.

Mr Crichton noted that “that’s the whole point, is to raise funds and sponsorship and support those 11 charities that we picked this year”.

Those charities are: Wetwheels Jersey, Dementia Jersey, The Grace Crocker Family Support Foundation, Child Care Trust, Acrorn Enterprises, Jersey Cheshire Home, Brightly, the Jersey Heart Support Group, Jersey Scouts, Music in Action, and Macmillan Jersey.
